Rock and Roll

She's every little bit Rock and Roll and she make's it look so effortless. This Character can be spotted backstage at high end music venues and then the next afternoon in a City Cafe drinking her morning coffee. Her style is all about Rock chick Glitz mixed with fine tailoring and a version of sneakers perfect for the gig and the after party.

There is something I so admire about people who can "Do Vintage" without looking like they have stepped right off the stage. There are many good Vintage shops in the City where I live and you often spot a dedicated follower of fashion's gone by tottering down the cobbled streets. I wanted there to be exaggeration when it came to drawing this character, in real life she was quietly flaboyant but her presence made me want to add more feathers, more shape and more character which ended up with her dog wearing a top hat!

This Illustration was pure imagination. I was just mucking about drawing some roses, got some interesting idea's going and this is what came out of it.

I was watching Sophia Coppolas Marie Anntoinette before I started this Peice. I always find the film inspiring because the Costumes, Hair and Make-up are so fantastic. Again, I got lost in the detail of the hair and spent many long nights getting confused over the plaits, but got there in the end.
I am proud to say this is one of those peices I couldn't stop looking at afterwards, I am so pleased with it and I have had such a good response.

Skinny Pins: A Little Bit Country
This Illustration was Inspired by a rather classic character seen in the city where I am based. She's the only girl I've seen who can carry off Wellingtons and an oversized chunky knit jumper with such effortless cool.
Illustration wise she started off as a series of quick pencil sketches capturing the main elements I liked about her style. Once I was happy with the Idea the Jumper took the most time. I wanted to see the texture of the chunky knit, and eventually it worked as I wanted it to.
